MALISA FUNDERBURK, MA
I am a compassionate therapist who creates a safe space to be real and meets you where you are without judgment. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Georgia State University and my Master’s in Professional Counseling from Truett McConnell University in 2023. I am under the clinical supervision of Cheryl A. O’Connell-Clinical Director LPC, CPCS, BC-TMH and the site direction of Rebecca Muyres, LPC, RPT-S, CPCS.
Life is challenging and is not meant to be walked alone. My desire is to come alongside you as you journey through difficult challenges and experience hope, healing, and abundance in your life. I believe true healing can begin when we are authentic and vulnerable with others and ourselves. There is great freedom in knowing we do not have it all together. I believe the counseling process is not intended to eliminate a problem but to fight for joy and peace amid hard circumstances that are out of our control. I also believe the most critical part of the process is discovering the root of the problem, not just treating the symptoms.
I love working with couples, women, and teens working through difficult areas of life. I encourage you to live intentionally and walk in the confidence God is calling you to become. I specialize in working with anxiety, depression, grief/loss, self-esteem, perfectionism, women’s issues, replacing negative thinking, premarital counseling, and couples counseling. I am certified in Prepare/Enrich, which is the #1 premarital and marriage assessment tool using evidence-based skills to foster healthier relationships. I also have extensive training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), an attachment-based intervention for couples in crisis. This therapy focuses on identifying and fighting the negative cycle of conflict, replacing unhealthy patterns, and building deeper emotional connections as a couple in the process.
I have been married to my husband for 26 years, and we have loved raising four kids, including an internationally adopted child. Through my faith journey, personal life challenges, years of women’s ministry, and educational training, God has developed a passion in me to minister to others through counseling. I want you to know that YOU ARE NOT ALONE. My Christian faith is central to my life. I would consider it a privilege to offer biblical truth, prayer, and spiritual encouragement to anyone looking to deepen their relationship with God and incorporate their faith in the therapeutic process.
